Postings

Last night I was dozing off in my leather chair after dinner, so I went and lay down. Then I realized I couldn't sleep. My mind was racing. I can ALWAYS sleep, so this didn't last too long, but eventually transitioned into strange dreams.
It was one of those times when I felt some unnecessary anxiety about all that is happening right now at the DoubleShot.
I thumbed through the names in my phone because, at times like these I feel that telling someone might help. Not that anyone is going to give me good advice, but just that I need to vent and for someone to commiserate. And sometimes people say things that change my perspective.
This morning I slept longer than I felt I should. And then I came to the DoubleShot. I started talking to April about changes and the things that bring me stress. About the way I want to change the website. About how I want to start writing again. I want to write the way I feel. In rivers and waves.
I sit here now at my computer and, in front of me are a vampire and a transexual. The vampire, covered in self-inscribed tattoos, has his pinky crossed under his third finger on his left hand. And he's just removed his shirt. The transexual, in his bedazzled hat and fur coat, bright red lipstick and pinky ring, is sitting across from the vampire, talking about who knows what. And a cute girl just came and took a picture of them with her iPhone. And the conservative couple who just got out of church looked nervously at the vampire as they passed.
These are the kinds of things I see every day. They're real here at the DoubleShot.
Strange scenes occur. You don't even know.

And tomorrow something equally odd will happen. Things change every day.

The new acquisition of the DoubleShot will be pretty cool. Countertops of concrete and reclaimed red oak from an old barn in Claremore. A cleaner area with more space for counter seating and a dedicated bar for pourovers, presspots and whatnot. A bar in the front window. Same strange people, and some new ones, no doubt. More curiosities you'll have to pay attention to notice. More bikes. More space. More fun. More fun, indeed. That's what it's all about. Coffee and laughter. Good coffee.

Don't stuff the small sweat. I am looking forward to the new digs. Change is good. Growth is good.

The coffee is why we all come, but the people are second in why we love it so much. Thank goodness for the community at the doubleshot -- as weird as we each may be, in our own ways -- hopefully this expansion will allow not only more wonderful coffee opportunities but also an expansion of community. I freaking love that vampire and transsexual.

I'm jealous. I'd love to have a job that involves hosting vampires and transsexuals.
