SHUT!

It ain't hap'nin today. Another ice wash blew across our town and covered everything in a slippery sheet. I knew it was looking bad this morning when I had to grab onto my car as I slid down the driveway, to keep from going on by.
I'm here, roasting. But the store will be SHUT today, and maybe tomorrow. I can hear the phone ringing already. And I know that people will risk life and limb for a cup of DoubleShot Coffee. But today, stay in. There's another round of storms on the horizon.
I told you to buy coffee beans to use at home.

Hey, I just saw a guy drive by with his window down, smoking a cigarrette out the window. Freeze his @$$ off and damage his lungs, but he doesn't want the inside of his car to smell like smoke.
Cool.
See you soon.

Costa Rica

La Minita Dress

Well, as you can see, I finally got a chick in the sack.

I'm going to Costa Rica again. On the morning of January 19th, 2007, I will board an airplane bound for San Jose, Costa Rica. By that evening, I will be sitting at Beneficio Tarrazu (the mill), eating Johnnie's grilled chicken (or some such grilled meat), at the base of Hacienda La Minita. I can't wait.

I'm going down to visit the plantation for three days. This is where the La Minita coffee (that I sell) is grown, milled, sorted, and cupped for quality. Being invited again is an honor. I was there two years ago, and enjoyed a time I'll never forget. The people who work for the estate are so very kind and hospitable. It's a relaxing time of sitting on the front porch, looking out over the Tarrazu valley and the coffee trees that grow on the side of the mountain below, eating delicious food, drinking Imperial beer, and meeting the people who make La Minita coffee so good.

The store will be SHUT for the days that I'll be gone, and no web orders will go out during that time. But I promise to write while I'm there and to take plenty of pictures.

By the way, I've really been enjoying DoubleShot lately. It seems like we've all sort of fallen into a pleasant groove. Most people have been so supportive and nice and appreciative lately, and It makes me feel good about doing what I do. So thank you to all of my customers. I promise, even greater things are in our future.

But this week's issue of the Urban Tulsa has a list of "The Hot 100- The Hottest Movers and Shakers Around."
And guess who made the top 10...

"9. Brian Franklin, DoubleShot Coffee Company. Starbucks sent Brian Franklin a "scary lawyer letter," claiming that "DoubleShot" was their trademark. Brian stood his ground, kept his name, and Starbucks backed down. Brian is still serving up great coffee under the DoubleShot name at 18th & Boston."

I already sent Mayor Taylor an email saying hello to Number 66 from Number 9.
